Rock at the Castle 2008 - Live footage

Rock At The Castle was back with a fantastic line-up of the hottest local rockers on Sunday 3rd August.

There was something there for everyone from the Vipers' swaggering and gritty rock 'n' roll through Lick 'n' Laugh's surreal yet seductive beatnik jazz to the inevitable mass conga that spontaneously erupts every time wacky ska-punks Dregs of Society hit the stage. Streetsleeper were due to perform at last year's event but had to pull out at the last minute - so Rock At The Castle was pleased to have them confirmed this year.

There were fewer artists on the acoustic stage this year, so that each could have more time (two ten-minute sets each between acts on the main stage). They were: the inimitable Rob Clydesdale, playing songs from his new album, Emotional Mechanics, Tom Dibb, who also played last year, Alan Cowley, a superb singer songwriter somewhere between Elvis Costello and David Gray, Tinlin with their Simon & Garfunkelish harmonies and, of course, Hertford's own Latino-Celtic Chanteuse, Nuala. We also had the winner of East Herts Council's annual Pop Luck competition for young vocalist, Rebecca Finnis.

To round off the day Hertford 'supergroup' the Marquee Allstars were back with a set of mainly covers featuring the leonine roar of compere Jim Distortion and Kev Saunders' feral snarl as well as members of some of Hertford's best known bands - including Perfect Distortion, The Trash, Leon Colven band, Tom Braggins Band/Hanzo, The Lullabyes, After Dark and Crimzen.

The year's lineup was, in reverse order:

The Marquee Allstars
Imperial Vipers
Broken Mile
My Echo
Dregs Of Society
Leon Colven
Band Ahead Of Time
Crew Crimzen
Ruff Justice
Lick'n'Laugh
Streetsleper

On the acoustic stage:
Rob Clydesdale
Tom Dibb
Nuala Alan
Cowley Tinlin
